Transhumanism Self-Portrait, 2017
This self portrait, which is obviously not about the external appearance of the artist, instead illustrates the inner-workings of the artist, and perhaps the population at large. This foldable painting references Byzantine altarpieces and antique folding anatomical diagrams. The vulnerable exposed anatomy is overlaid with symbols that indicate how I have already been affected by technologies that extend my capabilities and human potential, although crude by comparison, have already started me down the path of a future that portends to be largely overwritten by transhumanism.
Witness II
Witness II is a simulacrum of a late 19th century anatomy model and references the five senses. The central human figure, even though denuded of his skin and flesh still has hubris to reach for a king’s crown. The bee, another regal symbol, exhibits a potential for good (honey) and for bad (sting) which my allegory for humanity’s ability for good and harm.
